Would you like to improve your driving — and save money on your car insurance while doing it? We have an app for that.
It’s called Signal. And it works on newer Apple and Android smartphones.
Once installed on your phone and registered with us, Signal uses a combination of motion and location sensors to provide you with insights about your braking (repeat hard braking is an indication of distracted driving), how often you speed (drive over the speed limit) and whether your use your phone for talking or texting while driving. The app can even tell the difference between talking directly on the phone or using a hands-free Bluetooth device. You’ll receive an overall driving score ranging from 1 (lowest) to 100 (highest), updated and shared with you weekly.
Over time, Signal learns how you drive. So, it will know if you’re driving or a passenger. Or you can tell it yourself when you get into a car.
Other members of your family can also use Signal. It’s a great tool for monitoring the driving habits of the younger drivers in your family. In fact, if you decide to use Signal we recommend all drivers shown on your policy also use it.
Signal is an optional program available to new and existing customers with our one of our FSPA policies. You need an iPhone with system iOS9 or above or an Android smartphone 4.0.3 or above. you must keep the Signal app installed and running with location services and motion sensors enabled. Unless you disable it, Signal remains running in background, so no need to remember to turn it on and off. The Signal app uses very little energy, so it won’t drain your battery.
At the renewal of your car insurance policy, you’ll be eligible for discounts ranging from 0.5 percent to 20 percent, depending on the percentage of enrolled drivers on your policy who use Signal — and their driving scores. There’s no risk of a surcharge being applied to your policy based on your Signal driving score(s), only potential discounts.
